Godzilla vs. Kong has reached $200 million in the global box office, making it the fastest-selling movie during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the fourth installment in Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse, a cinematic universe beginning with the rebooted Godzilla in 2014, followed by Kong: Skull Island in 2017 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019.
For the first time since the 1962 Toho-produced kaiju film King Kong vs. Godzilla, both monsters are back on the big screen to settle their differences in an action-packed battle that will surely take viewers for a wild ride.
The pandemic has put industries around the world on hold, including the film industry which saw massive delays and a pivot to streaming due to theaters closing around the world. Despite this obstacle, Godzilla vs Kong managed to exceed expectations by earning $48.5 million on the first 5 days of its release, making it the biggest debut since COVID-19 hit. It continues to break records with its current standing as the third highest-grossing international film of 2021 and number one in the domestic box office.
