Netflix Asia announced that the anticipated conclusion to the live action adaptation of ‘90s anime classic Rurouni Kenshin will premiere exclusively on the platform in selected countries like Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.

Live action versions of anime are usually hit or miss, with many adaptations falling short in satisfying the harsh expectations of fans of the source material. However, the first live action movie adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin released in 2012 was well-received by fans and critics alike. After its success, sequels Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends immediately followed in 2014.

Takeru Satoh reprises his role as the mysterious wandering samurai Kenshin Himura in the fourth and fifth films dubbed The Final and The Beginning respectively. Other cast members are also set to return including Emi Takei as Kamiya Kaoru, Yu Aoi as Takani Megumi and Tao Tsuchiya as Makimachi Misao. Watch the trailer for Ruruoni Kenshin: The Beginning below.

Three new cast members for the Rurouni Kenshin sequel are expected to appear in the movies: Issey Takahashi as Katsura Kogora, Kenshin’s former mentor; Nijiro Murakami (known recently for playing Chishiya in Alice in Borderland) as Okita Soji, captain of the first Shinsengumi unit; Masanobu Andou as Takasugi Shinsaku, founder of the Kiheitai, which initially recruited Kenshin.

Specific dates on when the movies will stream on Netflix have not yet been announced but it will most likely be during the latter half of the year. Regardless of when the movie will release, it is clear that many fans of the series are looking forward to its conclusion!
