Konfabulasi shows the capabilities of Samsung’s products through a completely smartphone camera-filmed action movie.

Collaborating with director Angga Dwimas Sasongko, Samsung’s Galaxy Movie Studio partnered up with public relations agency Carl Byoir (a Hill + Knowlton Indonesia unit) to release Konfabulasi, a short film that was shot using only the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. The agency helped in the film campaign’s conceptualization, supervision, and its amplification.

Konfabulasi revolves around the story of Bilal and Marka, played by actors Reza Rahadian and Dian Sastrowardoyo respectively, as they undergo a process of confabulation while connected to a device.  Confabulation is a psychological term which refers to a memory error where a person generates false memories in order to “fill in the gaps” in their mind.

Konfabulasi demonstrates Samsung’s abilities to produce top camera quality with its different smartphone camera features. Through this campaign, Samsung aims to show the world how it is possible to produce professionally-made films using only a smartphone and hopes to lead in camera innovation.

IT and mobile marketing director for Samsung Electronics Indonesia Miranda Warokka said, “We are proud to launch a short film that was worked on with professional director Angga Dwimas Sasongko. This short film was recorded using the sophistication of the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.”

The challenge of creating a short film through a smartphone was an exciting one, director Sasongko says, as every single detail of scene, image, and character delivery had to live up to the results of a film produced using a professional camera. “I am sure the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G can be a mainstay for anyone to create movie-like content with epic results,” he added.
