The search for the next unique pizza flavor is finally over as Pizza Hut Taiwan announced their newest flavor. The Cilantro Century Egg Pig’s Blood Cake is the brand’s newest bold venture beyond the conventional pizza flavors. This unusual menu item combines local Taiwanese ingredients like the aforementioned century egg and pig’s blood cake, along with cilantro and peanut butter homegrown in Yunlin County.
“While the mix of ingredients sounded like they might not mix well, the melted mozzarella cheese does a good job of tying them together.” Pizza Hut Taiwan explained in a Facebook post. “The explosion in your mouth is better than you had imagined.”
This new and daring flavor joins the pantheon of previously trending unconventional flavors from Pizza Hut such as durian, brown sugar bubble tea, stinky tofu, and their ramen noodle that had actual noodles, eggs and pork slices.
It is clear that PizzaHut Taiwan is trying to serve these local flavors in a way that has never been done before. This would seem like an undeniable flop at first glance with the odd mix of textures and ingredients, but there have been people that surprisingly enjoyed the dish, including Taiwanese actor and singer Aaron Yan.
Whether this is a hit or miss with the people is still unclear, with some actually enjoying it while others avoid it at all costs. But what we can be sure of is that pizza can be whatever we want it to be as Pizza Hut continues to challenge the pizza norms with their uncommon flavor combinations.
