Despite the controversies surrounding the event, the Golden Globes pushed through and was held as a private affair on Monday, January 10 (Sunday, January 9 in the US).
The organizers of the annual event, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), had said that there will be no audience or red carpet for the ceremony, instead “shine a light on the (group’s) long-established philanthropy work.”
In 2021, the organization faced backlash over ethics difficulties and a lack of racial diversity among its members, causing NBC to cancel plans to broadcast the event. After months of media attention on the issue, it was announced that the 79th Golden Globe Awards will continue even without a telecast, livestream or broadcast.
