Just in time for the recent celebration of International Literacy Day, the country’s longest-running and the most extensive book fair is back onsite.
Bibliophiles, writers, and exhibitors alike should look out for the 43rd Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), coming this September at the SMX Convention Center Manila in the Mall of Asia Complex. This massive gathering once attracted over 160,000 visitors in 2019. With easing pandemic restrictions, it is set to be mostly onsite, with a few hybrid activities in place.
The venue is expected to have more than a hundred booths all participants can visit from 10 AM to 8 PM. There is a myriad of publishers to visit including Learning is fun, Philippine Christian Book Store, Ateneo University Press, Claretian Publications, Feast Books, Abiva, Anvil, CSM Publishing, Adarna House and Penguin SEA among others. The book fair also features publishers of online books such as F & J de Jesus, Inc. and office supplies brands such as Pilot, TM Office Series, and Valiant. Publishers and other participating brands are making the fair a little more exciting with big deals and exclusive promos. Most are offering slashed prices, book bundles and booth giveaways. The surprises don’t just end there — most booths are also hosting special book signing events. Avid fans of the industry are in it for a treat with appearances from Dr. Ambeth R. Ocampo (Rizal Without the Overcoat), Rody Vera (Two Women as Specters of History), Virgilio Almario (Pambansang Diksiyonaryo sa Filipino), Allan Derain (Aswanglaut) and many more authors.
Meanwhile, the MIBF team definitely didn’t take the backseat on this one. The book fair proudly presents its jam-packed schedule of events throughout the weekend. From poetry reading to book launches, one would find it hard to get bored with all the activities available. The fair’s Indie Village showcase, where they gathered small presses, indie publishers, and self-published authors in one pavilion, is also one new highlight to not be missed!
