With more streaming services and television channels being made available, there are a lot of series coming in 2023 that are already poised to become promising hits and audience-favorites.
On this list, SEA Wave breaks down some exciting series arriving soon from five TV platforms – and yes, The Last of Us is included here.
HBO/ HBO Max
HBO and its official streaming platform HBO Max are home to prestigious television drama, exemplified in their 2022 slate that includes House of the Dragon Season 1 and The White Lotus Season 2.
2023 is the year where HBO will finally release Succession Season 4, The Idol starring The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp, True Detective: Night Country starring Jodie Foster, and the Scooby-Doo prequel series Velma. But it is The Last of Us, the much-awaited series adaptation of the video game led by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, that TV fans are most looking forward to. It also helps that the team behind another HBO hit Chernobyl is helming this project.
Netflix
We are expecting a lot of series coming in Netflix this 2023. While the next and final season of Stranger Things may arrive in 2024 or later, we can expect newcomers like the live-action series versions of Avatar: The Last Airbender and One Piece, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and the star-studded A Man in Full appearing very soon in the streamer.
Aside from these, expect more Korean content coming your way to Netflix soon.
Prime Video
For 2023, Prime Video is set to bring back favorite titles like The Boys, Good Omens, Hunters and Reacher while introducing new series such as Gen V (a spin-off series of The Boys set in a university) and Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover.
Prime Video is also expected to release more original content made by filmmakers from the region so watch out for that.
Apple TV+
Apple TV+ has been low-key producing some of the best series among the streaming platforms on this list and they’re not pulling to stops to release more shows this 2023. The third season of Ted Lasso, probably their most popular series to date, is premiering soon alongside Wool, Masters of the Air, and Shrinking.
Disney+
There’s a whole lot to unpack in Disney+, and where do we start? 2023 will see the Disney-owned streamer premiere Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2 and Ironheart from Marvel Studios, The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka from LucasFilms, and Win or Lose from Pixar. Another series to look forward to is Iwaju, an animated series in collaboration with Pan-American comic book company Kugali.
