Đại Việt Cải Lương Theater invites lovers of the arts and history to experience the historical play Gánh Cải Trạng Nguyên (The Laureate) for one night!
The theater production is one of the leading private traditional art troupes in the region, and it’s taking on Gánh Cải Trạng Nguyên—a certified classic with various productions, first performed in the early 1990s to raise funds for the renovation of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater’s traditional house.
This latest iteration of the play will be directed by Hoa Hạ and written by by Huỳnh Thủ Trung, Đào Việt Anh and People’s Artist Thanh Tòng. The story revolves around Hoàng Phi Học, a poor student in feudal society, making a living out of selling leafy greens to raise funds to travel towards the citadel and take the imperial examination. With the support of the Trương Mỹ Chi, a daughter of a fortune teller, and Hà Tố Nga, a lady’s maid, Hoc becomes the laureate. The cast includes Que Tran, My Hang, Tu Suong, Vo Minh Lam, Bao Tri, Trong Nghia, Le Thanh Thao, Kim Ngan, Thanh Phong, Trong Hieu, and Thanh Thuan.
