Art, culture, and happy hormones collide at this year’s Suk Jai Craft festival!
As part of the Unesco Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Crafts and Folk Art, Sukhothai in Thailand is hosting this creative festival that showcases the location’s rich cultural heritage, local wisdom, and creative potential in contemporary design. Sukhothai means “Dawn of Happiness” and was the capital of the first independent Thai Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries. And now, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for the extensive Sukhothai Historical Park ruins.
The festival features several zones, including Sook-Story, an exhibition zone that showcases curated narratives and works of local crafts in the area as well as practices; Sook-Studio, an area where visitors can participate in interactive workshops and DIY sessions led by local artisans; Sook-Poong, the food market where visitors can taste a variety of local delicacies including street food and craft-inspired cuisine inspired by the authentic flavors of Sukhothai; Sook-Stage, an evening event with live music performances; Sook-Store, where DIY and craft enthusiasts can purchase handmade products, design items, and unique artisanal goods from the locals; and Sook-Space and Sook-Synergy, the extensive communication zones for talk sessions and panel discussions by industry experts.
Suk Jai Craft festival is part of the month-long festivities “Sukh Fest” that started in February, ending this March 29. Join the festival and enjoy the craft, culture and community of Sukhothai!
