Witness the journey of an Elden Lord unfold on screen!

Bandai Namco and A24 announced that a live-action adaptation of the beloved fantasy game Elden Ring will be in the works soon.

Elden Ring is an open-world game where you play as Tarnished—warriors banished from the Lands Between by Queen Marika after they lost the golden light of the Erdtree. The story is set after a war between the children of Queen Marika, which left the Elden Ring shattered. Players awake amidst other Tarnished, our grace restored, and tasked to repair the shattered Elden Ring and become Elden Lord while traversing to the vast realm of the Lands Between.

Despite a lore-heavy and convoluted backstory, Elden Ring captured the hearts of gamers who enjoyed the open-world gameplay, the freedom to progress any way they want, and the strategic game mechanics, earning it the Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022 and selling more than 30 million copies worldwide.

The adventure will now take to the big screen courtesy of director and writer Alex Garland, best known for his works in the 28 Days Later franchise, Ex Machina, and Warfare. The story is based on the overarching mythos, history, and foundational lore from the games by George R.R. Martin, alongside the guidance of FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Principal photography is scheduled to last around 100 days, beginning in April of this year in the United Kingdom, with filming set to take place in Iceland in the summer.

The cast includes Kit Connor (Warfare, Heartstopper), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Paddington), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Black Bag), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Ruby Cruz (Willow, Bottoms), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us), John Hodgkinson (The Ferryman), Jefferson Hall (Game of Thrones), Emma Laird (The Brutalist), and Peter Serafinowicz (John Wick: Chapter 2).

While no details have yet been revealed about who the cast will be playing, the film has already been scheduled for release on March 2028 in theaters and in IMAX.
