We’ve all heard of stage-to-screen adaptations, but have you ever seen a musical adaptation in a video game
YouTuber schpood adapted the popular musical Hamilton inside his favorite video game, Minecraft. With the help of over 50 other players and seven months of preparation, building, and rehearsals, the group was able to do the impossible and adapt Act I of the musical.
Written by award-winning songwriter Lin Manuel Miranda, Hamilton was based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, first premiering in 2015 and quickly rising to fame due to its unique combination of hip-hop and traditional musical theater. The story follows the life of US founding father Alexander Hamilton and his involvement in the American Revolution.
People around the globe resonated with the musical’s themes of ambition and mortality, immigration and diversity, collaboration and democracy, love and forgiveness, and the tension between legacy and history. The songs, characters, and performances weave all these elements together to make a lasting impression on viewers around the world.
With its near-universal critical and commercial acclaim, the musical was awarded 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, marking its significant impact on theater and culture. The musical celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, and it even went back to cinemas for a limited-time run to celebrate its first release.

Fans’ love for the musical has crossed into the world of computer games, where Minecraft players have made it their mission to adapt the musical inside the game’s servers. We watched the whole hour and thirty minutes of Schamilton–as the fanmade video is lovingly called by fans–and we could see the effort that schpood and friends put into the recreation. The builds followed the details of the real-life theater sets, and the characters moved in sync with one another, following the choreography and blocking of the original musical to a tee. Don’t get us started about the singing, because we absolutely loved their versions of “Satisfied,” “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down),” and “Dear Theodosia.”
All in all, it was an amazing experience to watch, showing just how powerful and inspiring a piece of media can be that it can cross never-before imagined boundaries.
