The famous Monopoly board game has taken over Phuket and its beautiful island attractions with Monopoly: Phuket Edition. Hasbro has been developing the game since 2020, and by 2021, they started crowdsourcing for landmark suggestions to be included in the board.

With its release, Phuket Monopoly features must-see destinations such as Promthep Cape, Phuket Old Town,  and Kata Beach. Despite these features, fans can’t help but notice how several landmarks that round out the Phuket experience did not make the cut like  Bangla Road, Big Buddha, and Elephant Sanctuary.  Instead, the board game opted for commercial establishments such as Blue Tree Phuket and Carnival Magic Park, which are likely in collaboration with Hasbro. Given the brand placements, Phuket Monopoly still promises a fun time, with the good old board game still including the basic game staples like jail, super tax, community chest, chance and others.

“Phuket Monopoly is a fun way to showcase the variety the island has to offer from its beautiful beaches, historic old town, temples, night markets and restaurants to national parks, spas, golf courses and luxury hotels. It’s not just a great keepsake to remind travelers of their amazing holiday but an entertaining way to plan a trip to Thailand too!” Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, the Tourism Authority of Thailand Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East & Americas) shared in a statement.

While the 28 Monopoly tiles did not accurately represent Phuket in the eyes of many, new locations only show that Phuket has a lot of new attractions in store for us, which makes it exciting for those interested in visiting the island soon.

The board game is now available for sale in Phuket. It can be found in The Box Cafe, D6 Wargaming Phuket, Phuket Card and in some locations on the board such as the British International School Phuket, Blue Tree Phuket Water Park, Carnival Magic, and BCIS International School.
