One Piece Creator Hides Secret Treasure in the Ocean

Japanese manga artist Eiichiro Oda recently made the One Piece’s secret leap out of the pages. One Piece released a video celebrating a new milestone as it surpassed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide. This makes it the best-selling manga series of all-time and the best selling comic series in volume format.

One Piece is an original work created by Oda in 1997, following Luffy’s search for the One Piece treasure and his pursuit to become the King of the Pirates. The manga has since spawned one of the longest-running anime series of all-time and a live-action adaptation by Netflix, with its most recent season streaming this March.

The milestone video features Oda writing the secret of the One Piece treasure on a piece of paper, which was secured and hidden below the depths of the seas. This was done in collaboration with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) Phase 3 to ensure that the pressure-resistant glass sphere that contains the One Piece secret not disrupt the marine ecosystem around it.

This action pays homage to Marineford, one of the most action-packed arcs in the franchise. White Beard, one of the only pirates who lived in the era when Gol D. Roger found the One Piece, screamed at the World Government that incited the fervor and passion of every pirate and soon-to-be pirate.

We just hope no one finds the treasure and spoils the ending for everyone else. Are you excited to find the One Piece for yourself? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
